A part of the Olympics since 1896, pole vault is
the most technical event in the athletics. Pole vault for men was
included in the Olympics in 1896 while for women, the pole vault was
inducted in 2000.
Rules and Regulations
- The weight of each competitor must be recorded on the scoring
form next to their name.
- At one height, the maximum number of trials can be three.
- The athletes have to take all three events one after the
other.
- If an athlete has three consecutive pole vault unsuccessful
trials, he or she is disqualified.
- Any athlete who has passed three consecutive heights, is
allowed a warm-up vault without the crossbar.
- When three competitors are in the fray, four minutes are
allowed and when one competitor remains, up to six minutes is
permitted between trials.
- Competitors in the pole vault must not use any weights or
artificial aids.
- Competitors should not wear shoes which contain any device
that gives the athlete an unfair advantage.
- No competitor is allowed to use the pole of another athlete
without the consent of the owner.
- If a competitor's pole is broken during an attempt, it does
not count as a trial.
- The crossbar cannot be lowered after the pole vault has
started.
Rules Regarding Foul
- The athlete displaces the crossbar with the body or the pole.
- Any part of his or her body or the pole touches the ground or
the landing pad beyond the vertical plane without clearing the
bar.
- Fails to complete the trial within definite time
- Touches the crossbar with hands or arms.
- Takes the pole above the top hand-hold band.
